“Golf Fore the Cure” a Great Success

The first annual Mission Golf and Country Club “Golf Fore the Cure” event was held under sunny skies on Sunday June 22nd.  A full field of 76 ladies participated in the event. Due to the dedication and support of many individuals and business’ over $22000 was raised and will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research in B.C.  Gillian Minchuk was the top fundraiser who raised $5715.00 in pledges, with the help of her husband Gerry.  The nine hole tournament was topped off by a golf ball drop from a helicopter over the ninth fairway.  Extra spectators showed up to see if their ball would fall closest to the center of the bulls eye to win them $1000.  The winner of the ball drop was BJ Pearson of Mission.  Tournament organizer, Terry Rockwell, declared the event a great success. “Our success this year is due to the dedicated efforts of many individuals, and businesses in our community.  Breast cancer has touched everyone’s life, and people are very positive about supporting this event.”  If you are interested in making a pledge to this event, or would like to be involved in next year’s event, you can do so by contacting Terry Rockwell at 604-814-2666.

Thank You Letter

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to you for your support of our “Golf Fore the Cure” tournament.  You may have been a major sponsor, a prize donor, a participant, a volunteer, a supporter of our various fundraising events leading up to tournament day, or you pledged a player.  Due to the generous donations of time, sponsor funds, and pledges, we raised over $22000.00 to donate to breast cancer research in British Columbia. 100% of funds will be designated to research in B.C.  You can be very proud of the role you played in the success of this event.

We had a fabulous day.  The weather was perfect.  The participants and volunteers were eager to play their part in our success.  Everywhere you looked was a sea of pink, pink shirts, hats, balloons, and golf balls. Sisters, mothers, daughters, and best friends joined together to golf, and realized a new found power as a group striving to find a cure for a disease that make most of us feel powerless.  Family members came out to show their support.  It was a day full of emotion for everyone in attendance.  At times laughter rang out, and at times tears fell.  Personal stories were shared and friendship bonds were strengthened.  Feedback from participants was extremely positive.  Most declared it the best golf tournament they had ever attended and wanted to sign up for next year.  Many women said they would be working harder to obtain more pledges for the next tournament.  We are already looking forward to next year and are planning on surpassing our success of this year.

Thanks again in supporting us in our fight against breast cancer.  Your donation makes our success possible.

Sisters, Golfing Fore a Cure
